Our series entitled „Mosaics from the heritage of ELTE” presents some of the key material cultural heritage of the Eötvös Loránd University. The object of the month is the candle from the funeral of Mór Jókai.
The Research Room and its library and archive services will offer reduced opening hours from 2 June 2025 until the end of October 2025. During this period, services are available between 9:00 and 16:00 on weekdays. Thank you for your understanding.
In the framework of our book adoption programme, our conservator and old book librarian gave our adopter a detailed presentation of the supported volume.

At the invitation of the Economic Sciences Workshop of the ELTE Márton Áron Dormitory for Advanced Studies, on May 22, 2025, Tibor Faragó-Szilvási and Tibor Móring, staff members of the Education and Research Support Department of the ELTE University Library and Archives, gave an online lecture entitled „Research Support with Modern Tools: Scientific Databases, Research Data, Reference Management”.
The Hungarian Academy of Sciences, of which many ELTE students and lecturers were members, will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2025. Loránd Eötvös, the namesake of ELTE and a renowned physicist, was a member of the academy from 1873 and played a significant role in the development of the university and Hungarian scientific life. ELTE commemorated his life's work with an exhibition in 2019, the 100th anniversary of his death, the catalogue of which will be published in 2023.
Following the 2021 survey, the University Library and Archives is once again conducting a needs assessment to map the quantity and types of research data managed by the university’s researchers.
On the occasion of the Night of Museums, on the 21st of June 2025 from 6.00 pm at the ELTE University Library and Archives in the Reading Hall (1053 Budapest, Ferenciek tere 6.), the ELTE Art Ensemble will give a summer concert.
On the occasion of the Night of the Museums on 21 June 2025 at 8.30 pm the Windward (Fuvalom) vocal ensemble will perform in the Lobby at the ELTE University Library and Archives (1053 Budapest, Ferenciek tere 6.).
On the occasion of the Night of Museums, the first adaptation of Mór Jókai's classic, The Man with the Golden Touch, a silent film long thought to be lost, will be screened on 21 June 2025 at 21.00 in the exhibition hall of the ELTE University Library and Archives. The Hungarian feature film of the writer's most beloved novel, directed by Sándor Korda, will be brought to life on the moving pictures.
The most interesting moments in the life and works of Mór Jókai are brought to life in this short, playful quiz, which we have put together in conjunction with the exhibition. We welcome all those who would like to test their knowledge – or just have a good game!
Komárom, March Youths, Laborfalvi, The Man with the Golden Touch, Balatonfüred, Svábhegy – so many words calling to the writer-prince. On the occasion of Jókai's 200th birth anniversary, our library joins the Night of Museums with an exhibition that recalls the novelistic world of Jókai, the defining moments of his life and the spirit of his times.
At the ELTE University Library and Archives (1053 Budapest, Ferenciek tere 6.) on 21 June 2025 between 15.00 and 24.00, Zsuzsanna Illés, artist and founder of the Fabula fire enamel atelier will hold a workshop in our community space as part of the Night of Museums programme. Visitors will be able to gain an insight into the art of fire enamelling.
During the Night of Museums, visitors can build a library palace, assemble fragmented pieces of our codex pages with our library puzzles and on the occasion of the Jókai Memorial Year, put together pictures related to the writer's life and works.
