During the Night of Museums, visitors can build a library palace, assemble fragmented pieces of our codex pages with our library puzzles and on the occasion of the Jókai Memorial Year, put together pictures related to the writer's life and works.
Within the framework of the Night of Museums program series, calligrapher Dezső Buzogány will hold a workshop on the 21st of June 2025 between 15:00 and 24:00 in the hall of the ELTE University Library and Archives (1053 Budapest, Ferenciek tere 6.). Our guests are able to gain an insight into the art of calligraphy. All visitors are welcome!
According to our tradition, we will join the Night of Museums on the 21st of June 2025. From 3 p.m. until midnight, our library welcomes all visitors with craft activities, fire enamelling and calligraphy workshops, film screenings, concerts, building tours, guided tours at the restoration workshop and our Jókai memorial exhibition. Tickets will be available at the entrance from the 2nd of June 2025.
Two extremely valuable and rare documents have been loaned by the ELTE University Library and Archives to the temporary exhibition entitled Magic Power – Knowledge. Community. Academy, organised jointly by the Hungarian National Museum and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition was opened on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, with the aim of providing an insight into the history of the formation and development of Hungarian scientific thought.
The LIBER leadership training program, which was announced for middle managers, ended in April 2025. The program aims to support middle managers of research libraries in expanding their leadership knowledge and developing their skills. Participants were able to acquire the knowledge and competencies necessary for performing middle management tasks in the framework of five thematic modules.
The MTMT Repository Accreditation Committee has issued a certificate for the journal „Translation Studies”, which was launched by the Department of Translation and Interpreting Training at ELTE BTK in 1999. The journal aims to create a Hungarian-language, internationally significant professional forum in the field of translation studies, and has played a significant role in Hungarian translation studies over the past 25 years. Currently, 27 journals have such a certificate, 7 of which are affiliated with the ELTE Faculty of Humanities.
Due to technical reasons, the Reading Hall and the Community Room from the Lobby will be open to readers on 8 May 2025 (Thursday) between 9.00 and 11.00 at the ELTE University Library and Archives.
How to successfully publish with Wiley? Wiley is organizing a webinar on publishing support specifically for researchers, teachers and students of the institutions participating in the Hungarian consortium. The online webinar, the aim of which is, among other things, to support open access publishing, will take place on May 8, 2025 (Thursday), 10:00 – 11:00 AM (CEST).
A new digital infrastructure has been established under the name ELTE Thesis Repository to support the archiving and lawful dissemination of theses, as well as student research papers submitted for the Scientific Students' Associations Conference (TDK) and the National Scientific Students' Associations Conference (OTDK).

The documents of the Hungarian Institute of Public Administration, founded by professor Zoltán Magyary (1888–1945), an internationally renowned scholar of public administration, and Magyary's personal legacy were preserved by the Department of Public Administration Law of the Faculty of Political Science and Law of ELTE. In 2015 and 2017, ELTE and NKE concluded an agreement on the digitization and public publication of the legacy, as a result of which NKE handed over the digitized documents to the University Library and Archives in December 2023. 1 404 items can already be searched and researched in the ELTE Digital Institutional Knowledge Base, and the documents and maps will be managed by the University Archives from 2022.
The ELTE University Library and Archives offers extended opening hours for readers and students on weekdays and Saturdays between the 5th of May 2025 and the 14th of June 2025 until 22.00 hours. Our new community space offers the opportunity to learn, relax, use kitchen facilities and free computer access.
