Due to the Night of Museums, the library services of the ELTE University Library and Archives will be inaccessible on Saturday, on the 21st of June 2025. Everyone is welcome to join our programmes starting at 15.00.
The University Library and Archives of Eötvös Loránd University continued to receive significant support from the Foundation for the University Library in 2021, with funds raised from various tenders, charitable donations and a percentage of personal income tax donations to help the continuous development of services.
On the occasion of the Night of Museums, the Perczel globe will be presented at 20.00 in our Reading Hall by Dr. László Zentai, Vice-Rector for Education and Academic Affairs of the Eötvös Loránd University. The Professor will give a lecture on the history of László Perczel's globe. After the presentation the copy of the globe will be on display in the Director General's Room. The world map, which won first prize at the International Geographical Congress in Venice in 1881, was the largest Hungarian globe in Hungary until 1965.
The opening concert of the Night of Museums will be a string quartet from the "Eötvös" Art Ensemble at 6 p.m. More details about our programmes are available here and on our library website. All visitors are welcome!
On the Night of the Museums the exhibition of our medical books offers an insight into our museum collection. The opening of the exhibition will take place on the 25th of June from 19.00 in our Boardroom on the second floor.
On the 2nd of June 2022, the ELTE University Library and Archives hosted an Israeli delegation from the Libraries and Information System of Bar-Ilan University, in cooperation with the Head of the Library of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Pázmány Péter Catholic University.
On the Nigth of Museums our guided tours focus on the history of the University Library and Archives, Eötvös Loránd University. The library palace was designed by Antal Szkalnitzky. Up-to-date technology of the time was used for ventilation, heating and illumination.
On the Night of Museums the concert will present works written from the Renaissance to the present day. Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, 20th century and contemporary classical music works will be performed.
Due to technical reasons, the ELTE University Library and Archives will be closed on the 3rd of June 2022, but our services will be available in our other reading rooms. The library will be temporarily closed between the 4th and the 9th of June 2022. On the 10th of June 2022, from 10.00 a.m., we are waiting for our readers according to the usual opening hours.
According to our tradition, we will join the Night of Museums on the 25th of June 2022. From 3 p.m. in the afternoon until midnight, our library welcomes all visitors with craft activities, concerts, guided tours, restoration workshops and an exhibition of medicine books. Tickets will be available at the entrance from the 10th of June 2022.
In our training room, which was opened in 2016, we replaced the desktops with modern laptops and increased the number of workstations, with ten students and one teaching notebook available.
The Reading Hall will be closed on the 13th of May 2022 due to an event. The other reading rooms of the library will remain open for our readers with the usual opening hours and services.
EISZ and Springer Nature are organizing an online webinar in English for researchers from the institutions participating in the Hungarian consortium. The presentations are designed to help Open Access publishing.
The Eötvös Loránd University Library and Archives, the MTA – ELTE University History Research Group and the Primate Archives invite you to a book launch on the 13th of May 2022 from 3 pm at the Main Reading Room of the University Library.
We are pleased to inform you that from the 30th of April 2022, we will offer reading and study opportunities in the Main Reading Room on Saturdays from 10 am to 6 pm.
