The Eötvös Loránd University Library and Archives – University History Collection has become a museum institution of public interest by the decision of the Minister of Culture and Innovation.

During the Easter holidays, between the 7th of April 2023 and the 10th of April 2023, the ELTE University Library and Archives is closed. We wish you a happy and blessed Easter!

Save a book, adopt it! Our volume presented in April is a missal printed in 1704 in Nagyszombat, which is one of the highlights of the book adoption program of the University Library Foundation.

Two hundred and fifty years ago, in 1773, Pope Clement XIII dissolved the Jesuit order, accelerating the process of the university's transfer to the state. Between 1635 and 1773, many distinguished Jesuits of great knowledge taught at our university, leaving a lasting mark on the history of the institution. In March our feature is on Ferenc Weiss, one of the founders of the Buda University Observatory and a pioneer of engineering education in Hungary.

Save a book, adopt it! Our volume presented in March is the book of the Jesuit theologian and historian Gábor Hevenesi (1656–1715), which is one of the highlights of the book adoption program of the University Library Foundation.

As part of our service expansion, self-service scanning became available in our library from the 1st of March 2023.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be open from the 27th of February 2023 with full opening hours.

Support the restoration of old Hungarian books of the ELTE University Library and Archives! In 2023, we recommend the pieces of one of the most valuable collections of the University Library, the ‘Old Hungarian Prints Collection’ to adopt.

On the occasion of the Hungarian Culture Day (22 January 2023), the ELTE University Library and Archives invites you to visit our virtual medical history exhibition.

Save a book, adopt a book! The volume marked as RMK II 260a:2, presented in January, is one of the highlights of the book adoption program of the University Library Foundation.

We have collected the most frequently loaned books in the University Library over the past year.

The mission of the ELTE University Library and Archives, which won the Hungarian Heritage Award and – as part of the University Library Service – the title of Qualified Library in 2018, as well as the EFQM “Committed to Excellence” certificate in 2020, is to provide Hungarian and foreign academic teachers, researchers and students with domestic and foreign literature, intending to integrate them into the international circulation of scientific life. Now, you can also help to ensure free access to information, to preserve and digitize our cultural values, and to acquire modern technological equipment and implement continuous service development. Please, support the Foundation for the University Library by offering 1% of your tax.

In Christmas time 2022, the ELTE University Library and Archives awarded the Pro Bibliotheca Universitatis Certificate of Merit to Anna Orbókné Jagiello and Kinga Sutócki, staff members of the Collection Management Department, thanking them for their high quality and prestigious professional work.

The 2023 calendar of the ELTE University Library and Archives presents the Jesuit missions of the early modern period through some of the library's museum publications.

On the 1st of September 2022, the ELTE University Library and Archives organised the tenth conference entitled Traditions and Challenges. This year's programme included presentations on the themes of Preserve, Protect, Serve and Preservation Practices in Higher Education Libraries.

New volume, "Practices of Research Data Management: Established procedures and pilot projects" has been published by the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and it is available online for free.

The Library will be closed between the 23rd of December and 1st of January 2023. Our library's services will be available from the 2nd of January 2023. We wish all our dear readers a very merry Christmas and a successful New Year!
