On the 17th of September 2022, as part of the Cultural Heritage Days, the University Library and Archives’ new exhibition was opened, presenting the most important documents and symbols of our university’s history.

Our series entitled “Mosaics from the heritage of ELTE” presents some of the key material cultural heritage of the Eötvös Loránd University. The object of the month is Gothard’s spectroscope of No. 10 (1886).

Visitors are welcome without registration on the 23th of July 2022 from 10 am to 6 pm at the exhibition of the ELTE University Library and Archives. The 19th century physics laboratory allows us to discover and test the tools made and used by Eötvös Loránd. By testing the tools in the animated exhibition space it shows and deepens the knowledge of how the Eötvös scale demonstrates Earth’s rotation.

Our series entitled „Mosaics from the heritage of ELTE” presents some of the key material cultural heritage of the Eötvös Loránd University. The object of the month is the Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus).

On the occasion of the Night of Museums, the secrets of the Biology and Prehistory Exhibition and the Mineral and Stone Collection will be revealed.

The ELTE Museum of Natural History celebrated the 20th anniversary of its exhibitions on the 17th of June 2022. On the occasion of the jubilee, a festive toast was given by university leaders, as well as former and current staff members of the museum.

The University Library and Archives offers guided tours of our exhibition „Under the spell of accuracy – The Life and work of Loránd Eötvös”.

The Eötvös Exhibition can be visited without registration on the 14th of May 2022 from 10 am to 6 pm at the ELTE University Library and Archives.

Object of the month – eighty-year-old herbarium specimen of the White water-lily from the collection of Rezső Soó. The relatives of the White water-lily in Püspökfürdő (Oradea, Romania) live nearly 2000 km away in Africa. This herbarium sheet was collected on the 13rd of October 1940 by Rezső Soó, who was one of the greatest figures in Hungarian botany and former director of the Botanical Garden, during this years he was the head of the department in Cluj-Napoca. The greatest value of the Herbarium is the series of the flora of Carpathian Basin, including many species of plants, which are extinct at the original habitat.

The ELTE University Library and Archives will be open on Saturdays from the 30th of April 2022, therefore the Eötvös Exhibition can also be visited.

In the autumn of 2021, museologist Georgina Schlay and historian András Kristóf Kósa-Grimm continued their university history tours on the ELTE BTK campus.

The anniversary exhibition of the Botanical Garden can be visited in the castle building and in the whole area of the garden until the 30th of May 2022.
