Our series entitled „Mosaics from the heritage of ELTE” presents some of the key material cultural heritage of the Eötvös Loránd University. The object of the month is the candle from the funeral of Mór Jókai.

On Sunday, 13 April 2025, on the occasion of the International Day of Special Needs Education, the exhibition Traces of the life of our namesake, Gusztáv Bárczi was on display in the library of the Faculty of Special Needs Education, as well as an exhibition on the history of special needs education, which was also held in another room, and which was also provided by the Faculty Library and the Special Needs Education History Collection.

Members of the ELTE Heritage Coordination met on May 28, 2025 at the TTK Natural History Museum to get to know each other's collections and to continue professional exchange of ideas. During the event, they gained insight into the inventory and processing work of natural history collections, and listened to lectures on the history of the mineralogy and natural history collections. At the end of the day, the biological collection was presented, and the event was closed with an exchange of experiences and sharing of good practices.

The University History Collection holds around fifteen thousand frames, including negatives and paper photographs. The earliest images are from the 1880s, but most date from 1950 to 2000, depicting various university events and life. Digitised items are available in the ELTE Digital Institutional Knowledge Library, with a detailed report on the collection in the 2023 issue 4 of Archives Review by Georgina Schlay.

An exhibition on the life and work of Gusztáv Bárczi has opened in the library of the Gusztáv Bárczi Faculty of Special Education. Bárczi was a key figure in curative education, serving as director of the College of Curative Education from 1942 to 1963. The exhibition showcases unique documents from his legacy, highlighting the most important stages of his life.

The exhibition closed on 15 December 2024.

Nearly half of the numismatic material kept in the University Library and Archives - University History Collection are commemorative medals and plaques that our institution received as gifts from partner universities. The purpose of our professional network called University Heritage Coordination, which was established in 2020, is to develop the method of managing and protecting the valuable cultural heritage of the university, as well as to make it visible to both the citizens of the university and the general public. Almost every organizational unit of the university has delegated a representative to the professional network, so in addition to working together, we also try to get to know each other's collections in the framework of professional trips.
