The Library of  Bárczi Gusztáv  Special Education Faculty of ELTE  is the only specialized library in the field of special education in Hungary. Library  gathers and provides the special education literature.

The college legal predecessor institution, the Training School for Primary School Teachers of Special Education worked in Vác in 1900 and from 1904  in various educational institutions in Budapest. From 1922 its name changes to the Training School for Teachers of Special Education, then in 1928 to Training College for Teachers of Special Education. The institution in 1975 took up its internationally famous professor’s, Bárczi Gusztáv’s name.

The history of library can be traced back to 1942 when the College was housed in a building in  Alkotás street. Here was established  the Central Library with 3600 volumes, which increase up to 10990 volumes until 1956, when the Library moved to Bethlen Gábor square. The following 44 years are of great importance in the development of the Library.

In 1993 there was established a modern computer system. Our library has become the first Voyager software reference place in Hungary.

The year 2000 brought radical changes in the life of our institution. On the first of January the Bárczi Gusztáv Training College for Teachers of Special Education became a Faculty of Eötvös Loránd University. The Faculty moved from the prestigious building on Bethlen Gábor Square to Ecseri street 3, District 9.

From 1st September 2014 The Collection of Special Education-history got into the library.

Our Library is available for users with large reading hall and with modern IT applications.

The Library has special services for  visually impaired people: “talking” computer( with Jaws and scanner),  Braille printer,  reading help TV set.
