Details of registration

The library provides its services primarily to teachers of the Institute for History and students of faculties, programs, structured courses managed by the institute. Furthermore, all ELTE “citizens” are entitled to use the library. Non-citizens of the university may use the library with individual authorization. Registration is a prerequisite to using the library. Registration is done with a valid personal identification document (personal ID and residence card, or student ID). The main purposes of the reading room reference library are: general information and assisting education.

A part of the collection may be borrowed. Documents found in the reading room reference library and the auxiliary library, periodical publications, source publications and bibliographies, manuscripts (PhD dissertations), electronic documents and books published before 1851 may not be borrowed. Books published between 1851 and 1945 may only be borrowed by teachers and PhD students. Students participating in the graduate program may only borrow documents published after 1945. A maximum of 4 documents may be borrowed from the library at any one time.

Readers may search the collection using the card catalogues and the electronic catalogue. The electronic catalogue is also accessible from our webpage (http://tortenelemszak.elte.hu/intezet/tortkonyvtar).

If necessary, photocopying is available at the library for teachers. Students may take out documents with the purpose and for the time of photocopying against a deposit. (PhD dissertations are an exception, as those may not be taken out from the library and may not be copied.)

The computers located in the reading room provide access to the Internet, the databases subscribed to by the university and the electronic documents of the library.  The use of own laptops and digital cameras is permitted in the reading room. The WiFi operating on campus is also available in the library.

The main purposes of the reading room reference library are: general information and assisting education. The collections on the open stacks in the reading room and the periodic publications may be used without a request form. Any warehouse document may be requested to be used in the reading room and may be reserved by the reader in the event of continuous use (max. 3 books for 5 working days). Own documents may only be entered into the library following presentation of those to the librarian and upon his/her approval.

The size of the entire collection is 135,000 volumes. The core collection is found in the library rooms.  The depository libraries of the individual departments of the institute organizationally also belong to the library. The collections of these depository libraries are registered and managed/lent by the library similarly to the core collection. The head of the department shall decide with respect to the management of the departmental depository libraries.
