Details of registration

Any person over the age of 18 may visit the library, following registration. Registration and library membership is free of charge. The full range of library services is only available to students participating in a BA, MA or PhD course at the Institute of German Studies of ELTE BTK and teachers of the Institute. External readers may request a visitor’s pass by registering their data, which allows them to read the collections found in the reading room and the warehouse, on-site. Library membership is valid for one semester and should be renewed each semester, following verification of eligibility and data provided.

The library’s collection consists of WAREHOUSE (may be borrowed) and READING ROOM (may be used on-site) BOOKS. Borrowing from the warehouse is possible following the filling out and submission of a request form. Warehouse requests are fulfilled within 15 minutes. The loan period is generally 2 weeks, but may be shorter for popular books available in few copies. The loan period of the warehouse books may be renewed five times for periods of two weeks, provided that those are not reserved.

Various computers are available for readers in the reading room, which may also be used to search the Internet.

In order to use the computer, a password must be requested from the library readers’ service in all cases. The library visitor’s pass does not entitle its holder to the use of the computers or the Internet. 

RULES OF USING THE READING ROOM: The reader’s pass or visitor’s pass must be submitted in order to use the reading room. The handbook collection found on the reading room stacks may be used freely, without the need to fill out a request form. We request our Readers not to return the reading room books to the stacks after use! It is strictly forbidden to enter coats, bags and food into the reading room. Coats and bags may be left in the cloakroom lockers found in the library’s hallway, the keys to which may be requested upon submission of the reader’s/visitor’s pass.
